The shared bookshelf

Privacy & corrections

A shared book needs a little care. So does the information that travels with it.

What becomes public

Reports publish a place name, a date, and optional coordinates immediately. They are visible to anyone visiting this website and may be copied. Do not submit a private address. A town or public venue is enough.

Coordinates are rounded to two decimal places before storage. This reduces precision but does not guarantee anonymity. Even a town name can reveal sensitive information. Dates use the site calendar timezone: UTC.

What the application collects

No finder account, name, or email is requested. Browser location is optional and is requested only when you click the location button. This application performs no reverse geocoding and loads no third-party scripts, fonts, or maps. Your browser or operating system may use its own location provider when you request location.

Book covers on the shelf and book pages may load directly from external image hosts chosen by the administrator. Those hosts receive your IP address and browser request information. Cover requests send no referrer. Illustrations stand in when no cover image is available.

Publishing stores your IP address privately with this report for the administrator. These submission details are not published and remain until the report is deleted; private backups follow the operator’s retention policy.

Essential session cookies support forms, reporting access, and administrator authentication. Rate limiting uses short-lived keyed IP identifiers, separately from the IP addresses retained with successful reports. These are pseudonymous identifiers, not anonymous data. Expired counters are removed on subsequent rate-limited requests. Your hosting provider may separately record IP addresses and requests in access logs.

Secret links and public histories

Reporting links are reusable bearer credentials: anyone with a link can submit reports for that copy. They do not prove possession or truth. Rotating or revoking a link invalidates old labels and unlocked forms. Keep the secret link on the physical copy rather than a public webpage.

This site asks search engines not to index its pages. That request is advisory; public reports can still be copied or scraped.

Corrections, removal, and retention

Reports remain until the administrator removes them. Private backups may retain deleted entries for the operator’s backup retention period. To request a correction or removal, contact tafkasorg@yahoo.de and identify the physical copy and report date.
